Ok, now that I have a Facebook account, I shall use this blog just for food. Here goes first installment since the completion of my kitchen.

I boiled some pasta and threw in asparagus tips towards the end. The lovely thing about asparagus tips is that they require almost no cooking at all. So to retain its crunch, I threw them into the pasta water just before I drained the pot. I then heated up olive oil, threw in delicious anchovies (these were from the precious bottles all the way from Paris courtesy of Stef, not the ikan bilis type). I mashed up the anchovies in the pan and dunked all the pasta.

The salmon is just an extra. I drizzled olive oil, freshly ground salt and black pepper and a layer of fresh basil before laying the salmon skin side up onto the baking tray. Short high temperature baking gave the salmon a beautiful crispy skin and a soft inside.

Happy New Year to all!

We just returned from Bangkok-Belgium. And we are glad to be back in Singapore. We bought a domain for ourselves so I'll be moving this blog soon. Meanwhile, all the best wishes to you!

This is my dad's current fattest goldfish. There's bound to be one in each batch but this one is the fattest - so fat it can no longer swim. It can't even force itself upright like other fishes.

Here are three reminders that children are nothing but stored energy. I regretted my decision fifteen minutes into the attempted dinner at Pizza Hut in Junction 8.

I probably will never afford a dreamseat on board the luxurious A380 in this lifetime. I imagine everything on that airbus to be grand - not counting the economy class.

Anyway, just like everything else related to SIA, the launch was pompous and I'm sure not a single cent was spared to push the grandeur of the launch to the max. My colleagues was lucky to be flown all the way to Toulouse for that. Me - I count myself lucky enough to be given the doorgift - a toiletry bag containing two bottles of perfume from Salvatore Ferragamo.

It's been years since I last celebrated Eid with my family. I almost forgot what a din it is to have a huge extended family. My nephews and nieces make all the chaos worth it. Nothing beats seeing them all excited to go visiting, dressed in their finest.

The only drawback is my crappy digicam. What a shame, not capturing the precious Kodak moments.

I went for my second brazilian waxing today.

Oh my. What a breeze!

The pain was less than half of that of the previous waxing. Even when she worked the tweezers on the strays, it felt as subtle as plucking the eyebrows.

But the best thing is ... the smoothness. The ultimate smoothness. The first waxing session produced a nice smooth result but not 100% smooth. I still saw stubles and stuff like that. It was like a soft and smooth version of the result of shaving.

This second waxing session, however, gave a baby-bottom-smooth result! Porn smooth. Boiled egg smooth.

Now I'm truly addicted to brazilian waxing! Hmmm ... this means I have to add $59 for the waxing to my monthly $30 pedicure. There's still the fortnightly eyebrows-shaping at $5 each time. The monthly online shopping ... The weekly drinking ...

Oh well ... I never said I'm of low maintenance. Anyway, at least if I were to die now, I know I enjoyed my money fully. Better to die contented than loaded.

Helmut's a hot favourite among my nieces and nephews. They drop whatever they are doing at the mere sound of Helmut's footsteps and jump in joy. I don't know how he can handle them crawling all over him at the same time.

My temper is short and sometimes, they drive me so mad I just want to lock them up in the storeroom and throw away the keys. Oh, this incidentally also makes my mum a supernanny. She's still sane, six grandchildren later.

Couple of days ago, Putri and Warda decided to play barber. I say barber and not hairdresser because Putri was cutting Warda's hair barber-length. Good thing my mum caught them in the act in time or else there's be just stubbles for Warda this Idulfitri.

Last Thursday, we took Bee out for her birthday treat.

Being the dreamy person that she is, we took her to the Flutes at the Fort. The setting was just beautiful, dining on the verandah of an old house amidst nature.

For starters, we shared scallops, roo and foie gras. I enjoyed well-grilled duckling for my main while Bee had venison, Ernie had cod and Nadia had her lamb. We admitted the mains were better than those at Senso but everything else couldn't be outdone by the Italian restaurant with superb customer service.

The desert round was a letdown. The sugar crust of the crème brûlée was so thick and hard I had to really whack it with the spoon. The chocolate fondant, being a fondant, was good but badly paired up with a super-sour passionfruit sorbet.

Will I take Helmut there? No. The wine list was short. Not to mention a tiny table on a different floor to smoke at. I'd rather take him to Senso for another dinner.

But hey, the four of us enjoyed ourselves. After all, it's the company that counts!
